The Mae Murray Foundation introduces Benone as NI’s First Fully Inclusive Beach.Limavady’s Benone beach is Northern Ireland’s first fully inclusive beach, thanks to work carried out by local charity, Mae Murray Foundation in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. The announcement was made at a recent all-ability family fun day, showcasing new equipment, including Northern Ireland’s first surfboard suitable for wheelchair users.Local beaches used to be off-limits for mixed-ability families due to lack of appropriate equipment and facilities for those with additional needs. The Benone Tourist Complex is about 5 minutes walk from Willow Caravans. The complex was developed in 1987 and has a fully serviced caravan and camping site with many other features. The complex is open to both residents and day-trippers. The site is designed to be suitable for all ages and includes a 9-hole golf course, a putting green and a golf practice range. There are also tennis courts, outdoor heated splash pools, an outside activities area with a bouncy castle and an indoor games room. The main building is a tourist information office, a café and a shop and over the summer there are many organised events.
Approx 5 minutes walk from “Willow”. Long Line Surf School and Water Trails ” provides lessons to teach the skills and techniques of surfing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP). The knowledge does not stop there as the passion for the local area and the sports that mould our lives appear in our lessons and we love to share our experiences with everyone”.
Magilligan Strand is a seven-mile stretch of sand backed by one of the largest dune systems in the UK. Popular with surfers, swimmers and walkers, the beach forms part of a local Nature Reserve. There is a cafe, a caravan park and a supervised paddling pool. Boardwalks offer access through the dunes.
